Whether you’re writing a blog post, essay, white paper or another piece of written work, knowing how to write a conclusion is a must.
Your conclusion paragraph can make the difference between keeping your readers engaged or leaving for good. It’s not something to be overlooked.
But knowing how to conclude content can be tricky. You want to satisfy your audience, yet keep them wanting more.
So let’s talk about what makes for a good conclusion and how to write one, along with real conclusion examples for inspiration.

How To Write A Conclusion
At the very least, a concluding paragraph should clearly sum up what you have covered in your article or paper without sounding patronizing or redundant.
But when done right, a conclusion paragraph can do much more. By knowing how to conclude content the right way, you can add additional impact to what you said in your piece, causing your readers to leave with a sense of respect and admiration for you or your brand.
Imagine if your readers remembered you long after they read something you wrote, and how powerful that could be for establishing your thought leadership.
That’s what you can expect when everything you write has an epic ending. So let’s go over my top ways to write a good conclusion.
Reinforce The Urgency Of Your Topic
One of the first steps when writing your conclusion is to restate the topic of your content and its significance in the present time. Why did you take all this effort to write about it, and why now?
This part of your conclusion paragraph has to be crystal clear and super tight. It should state only the most important points which prove the value of your topic.
For example, here’s an example of how to conclude content from my article on hiring a writing coach:
Whether you’re a budding writer, marketer, or businessperson; hiring a content writing coach is a worthwhile investment.
This is because no matter which stage of the journey you’re on, there’s always someone who can help you go further.
If you find a content writing mentor that has a proven track record, you’ll definitely reap the rewards of the investment.
When concluding the piece, I reinforced how important it is to have an experience writing mentor by your side. This lets me convey why the information I have shared is valuable and how it will help the readers.
Summarize Main Points
This is one of the most common ways to add weight to your conclusion. You give a clear summary of the main highlights of your work. But you do it using different words and phrases that you used before.
At this stage, it would be helpful to read through your paper or blog post a second time. This will allow you to pick out only the most relevant insights.
Consider one of the conclusion examples from my article on presentation skills:
So there is my take on delivering an effective presentation. Remember, the most important thing is to feel comfortable while talking to your audience.
The more relaxed you are, the better your presentation skills. Know that the audience are generally on your side.
They aren’t thinking of you as critically as you are. They want you to do well. So get on with it.
In this example of writing a good conclusion, the summarized the main points that I wanted the reader to take away from this piece. Because these are the most important things I would want them to remember, even if they forget everything else.
Reveal Implied Takeaways
Sometimes there are certain important ideas which are not directly stated in the body of your content, or relevant to the way you have organized the information.
But on a closer analysis, these points but can be inferred from your content, leading to new revelations.
So writing a conclusion is a great chance to state those insights and make it easy for the readers to connect the dots. For example of a conclusion paragraph, here’s what I said when concluding my piece on writing tone and voice:
Voice and tone are an important part of your brand. Most successful brands understand this. They invest in building a consistent voice and set of tones which are immediately recognizable by their audience.
In addition, they also make sure their writers have the skills to adapt to their brand voice and tone.
Although this information could be obvious to some who read the whole piece, I made it more explicit for easy understanding.
This is an effective way to conclude content because you’re tying up your information with new ideas that your readers may not have thought of on their own.
It gets them to read between the lines, thinking in new directions. They realize that your piece has more to say than what it’s letting on, and they’re getting it.
Add Your Take On The Topic
In this method to write a good conclusion, you present your own perspective or commentary on the things that you wrote about. You share your thoughts and connect them with the information you covered.
For instance, if you have some real field experience, you can share your take about the outcome of your advice, or the subject area in general.
Here another one of my conclusion examples of how I started my conclusion for this article on making money from a blog or website:
Indeed, it is still profitable to make money writing for a website or blog, and will remain so for years to come.
But patience and consistency are the 2 factors that cannot be compromised. Monetizing a blog is challenging, demanding massive investment of your time and labour.
Many bloggers and writers fail because they give up too soon. But if you can maintain consistency over the years, the reward is equally great.
Once I covered various ways to monetize a website, I used the conclusion to share my perspective on the subject. I wrote about whether I think it’s still possible, and what could be the key to success.
Show The Promised Land
When considering how to write a conclusion, think about what is the piece supposed to do for the reader?
What benefits they could get or problems they can avoid as a result of following what you said in your piece? How will their life or work change from this information?
If you started the right way, you’ll probably have an outcome in mind for the reader. So what better place than the conclusion paragraph to give them hope of that outcome.
So write about why the information you covered is important and to what extent it can be effective in accomplishing your audiences’ goals.
Even better if you can share real success stories or case studies of what others achieved as a result of following this advice.
For example, here are a couple paragraphs from the conclusion of one of my articles on writing with personality:
Once you develop the skill of writing content that brims with personality, I guarantee that your audience will always love reading it. In fact, they’ll want to come back and share your content again and again.
Your personality will become an authentic, memorable signature that appeals to your target readers. And it'll serve to build massive brand power for years to come.
As you can see, I am showing the readers what is possible once they start putting the advice I shared into action. So they feel more motivated to follow and see it through.
If you can do that, you’ll never have to worry about how to conclude an article or a blog post.
Add A Call To Action
As you finish up your ending, also think about adding a call to action or pose a question or idea for your readers.
The idea is to get them to think and engage further by directing their focus to another related activity.
For example, when you ask a question, you can invite them to share their answer in the comments section, or direct them to another resource you wrote where they might find the answer.
For example, here’s what I almost always write at the end of my articles, with slight modification:

I invite my readers to participate and add to the discussion because I genuinely want to connect with them and help them succeed.
So now that I have shown you my best tips on writing a good conclusion, I am sort of going nuts about how to write a conclusion for this piece that you’re reading.

So to give you a balanced perspective (and to save my own ass), I’d like to point out that not all these ideas and conclusion examples would be implemented simultaneously in the same piece of content.
